Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is naturopathy?
Naturopathy—also called naturopathic medicine—is a medical system that evolved from Germany in the 1800s, but some of its treatments are centuries old. Today, it combines traditional treatments with some aspects of modern science. Naturopathic medicine is a system that uses natural remedies to help the body heal itself. It embraces many therapies, including herbs, massage, acupuncture, exercise, nutritional counseling, and more.
  • Do you offer virtual visits?
Yes, telemedicine or virtual (zoom) visits are the standard here. You will receive a link to your virtual visit the day before your scheduled appointment. I work with people worldwide, made possible through virtual visits (telemedicine). I also do in-person visits and house calls in CSRA and the GA & SC coastal areas.

Atabey Naturopathy is a naturopathic medicine clinic that utilizes a truly holistic approach to wellness. I bring together physical, emotional, and energetic therapies to align your physical and subtle bodies.

  • What does Atabey mean?
In naturopathy, we believe that the body has an innate ability to heal itself when given the resources and space to do so. This is something I feel very passionately about, and I believe should be the standard of care. My family is indigenous to the Caribbean; I am Taino - which is something I hold so dear to me, and something I consider to be existentially linked to my being. Atabey is the ancestral mother of the Taino people and is associated with fertility, fresh water, and more. As you cruise through my services, you will notice I focus on women and mothers. Motherhood Mother Earth Mother Nature Mother of my people (Taino) It all goes together and intertwines throughout our physical lives, emotional well-being, and spiritual alignment (regardless of individual belief system). Mothers are of key importance in nearly all spiritual ideologies because she is the nurturer of her babies, who then grow into adults and carry those beliefs (which are not just tied to religion, we also carry these emotionally and mentally hence trauma) with them throughout their lives. All of that comes together here and then also pays homage to the amazing people/ culture I was blessed to be born into, as a woman, and the cultural and spiritual significance of it all.
  • What is functional medicine?
Functional Medicine is evidence-based medicine focused on the client. Functional Medicine is focused on client-centered care and addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms, hence the whole-body, whole-person wellness approach found here. Functional Medicine practitioners, like Dr Nyssa Correa, spend time with their clients listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, Functional Medicine supports each individual's unique expression of health and vitality, as it forges beyond the allopathic idea of health, that is "absence of disease". Functional Medicine practitioners look “upstream” to consider the complex web of interactions in the patient’s history, physiology, and lifestyle that can lead to illness. Each client's unique genetic makeup is considered along with internal (mind, body, and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect total functioning. Functional Medicine integrates traditional Western medical practices with what are sometimes considered “alternative” or “integrative” medicine, creating a focus on prevention through nutrition, diet, and exercise; use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques; and prescribed combinations of botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques.
  • Do you offer educational services?
I am a big believer in education. In fact, I have contracted for both state and federal governments in the past to do just that! I have also had the pleasure of being a CPE provider for TEA (state-approved continuing education provider for professional teachers). I am a certified Reiki Master and teach level 1 openly. Students who graduate from my level 1 course are able to take level 2, when ready and eligible. Practitioners at the 2nd level who demonstrate continued improvement and commitment to the art and practice of Reiki may be invited to work 1:1 with me to also become a Reiki Master. I am currently undergoing an exciting new venture with fellow holistic practitioners to write curricula for certification in Divine Feminine Energy, Nutrition, Health Coaching, Herbalism, Energy, and more! Please keep checking back as online iterations of these courses will be launching Spring 2024.
  • Where can I fill my supplement recommendations?
All of my clients have access to my holistic healthcare provider dispensary through Fullscript. You can order from the customized supplementation program that I craft exclusively for you, after your consultation, right from the convenience of your home. You will not need to go digging for this. I will set up your account on my end when I craft your plan. Once it is ready, you will receive a welcome email that will guide you to your plan. All of my notes will be built into your plan, making it simple and convenient for you! I do offer a 15% discount off all of my plans through Fullscript as well as free shipping for all orders over $50.
  • Where are you located?
Our services are offered via telemedicine visits, which means I can meet with you wherever you are! I do occasionally meet with clients in person in the CSRA and coastal GA/SC areas. Please Note: Available by appointment only and do not take any walk-ins.
  • Do you attend births?
This is one of the most common questions I get asked. As a practitioner, not at this time, no. I currently do not have any plans to open my practice up to birth either. I believe midwives are a fantastic avenue worth exploring if you are seeking a natural home birth or water birth. Not all midwives are created equal but there are fabulous ones out there that can meet or exceed your expectations.
  • There are nutrition "experts" everywhere online, why choose Dr Correa?
You can find certified nutrition coaches, wellness coaches, personal trainers, and more just about everywhere you look online. There are a few key things to be mindful of when selecting a nutrition practitioner. The first is legalities. In the state of Georgia, where Atabey Naturopathy is based it is against the law for anyone other than a Registered Dietician or one with a Master's degree or higher in Dietetics or Nutrition to give out personalized nutrition plans. If you are receiving personalized nutrition care from someone who does not meet this criteria, know that they are breaking the law to do so. Health coaches are legally only permitted to suggest what would be considered common knowledge advice to clients. They can hand out pamphlets and information sheets but personalized recommendations again, are illegal. The difference is in the quality of advice you are being given, the approach, and the depth as well as breadth of care. Having started off as a nutrition coach and personal trainer, I can tell you firsthand that the information in the certification training from some of the most popular certification programs is not only wrong but dangerous. I hold a Doctorate in Advanced Holistic Nutrition. When you work with me, you will find that it is about more than just food. It's more than just a "diet". We bring into your life the essential tools and expertise to make those dynamic, lifestyle shifts for lasting results. The journey you embark on, together with me, will truly power your life and what you want it to look like. We do not just tag along with the latest Insta-fad diets that are often nutrient-depleted and leave you worse off than before.

  • Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, absolutely! Payment plans are a very convenient option for clients and prospective clients to get the services they need but with the payments spread out over time. Some services will offer bi-weekly and monthly payments at the checkout. Others are still launching. If you need immediate assistance with a payment plan, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are happy to work with you in the capacity you need to get you on your journey.
  • Do you accept insurance?
Not at this time. We can provide superbills, though. (Not familiar with superbills? Superbills are an industry-specific term for a special type of bill you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement, or work towards your deductible, dependent upon your out-of-network coverage.)
  • Do you accept FSA/HSA?
Yes! Most of the services offered are covered under FSA/HSA, some services may require an LMN (Letter of Medical Necessity). My clinic is vetted through a 3rd Party for LMN's which you may be directed to. Additionally, we recommend you check with your plan provider prior to your appointment for any coverage questions.
  • What is your refund policy?
Please see the refund policy on the individual services page during booking.
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
We can accept all major credit/debit cards, cash, and FSA/HSA. We also offer in-house payment plans depending on your needs. Please note: not all services qualify for FSA/HSA. You may want to check with your provider prior to your visit to see if your appointment is covered.
